DVT Scan (Deep Vein Thrombosis)

Private Ultrasound Scan

Private DVT Ultrasound Scan in Stockport & Manchester

£120

At Sonoscan Healthcare, we provide professional and accurate DVT ultrasound scans in Stockport and Manchester, helping to assess whether a blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) is present in the veins of your leg.

This non-invasive ultrasound scan uses Doppler technology to check blood flow through the deep veins, helping to confirm or rule out a clot quickly so the right treatment can begin without delay.
Important: sudden breathlessness, chest pain, or coughing up blood can be signs of a pulmonary embolism. This is a medical emergency — please call 999 or go to A&E immediately rather than waiting for a scan appointment.

What Is a DVT Ultrasound Scan?

A DVT (deep vein thrombosis) ultrasound scan is a diagnostic scan that examines the deep veins of the leg, most commonly from the groin down to the calf, to check for blood clots. Using Doppler imaging, the sonographer can see whether blood is flowing normally through the veins or whether a clot is partially or fully blocking flow. It is quick, painless, and does not involve radiation.

Why Might You Need a DVT Scan?

Your GP or specialist may recommend a DVT scan if you:
  • Have swelling in one leg, particularly the calf
  • Have pain, tenderness, or a heavy, aching feeling in the leg
  • Notice redness or warmth over the affected area
  • Have recently had surgery, a long period of immobility, or a long-haul flight
  • Are pregnant or recently gave birth
  • Take the contraceptive pill or hormone replacement therapy
  • Have a personal or family history of blood clots
  • Have been advised by a doctor to rule out DVT

What Happens During a DVT Scan?

You lie on a couch with your leg uncovered from the groin down. The sonographer applies gel and moves a handheld probe along the veins from the groin to the calf, pressing gently at intervals — a healthy vein squashes flat under light pressure, whereas a vein containing a clot does not. No preparation is needed and you receive your findings so you know what to do next.

DVT Scan in Stockport & Greater Manchester

Our clinic is easily accessible for patients looking for a private DVT scan in Stockport, Manchester city centre, and surrounding areas of Greater Manchester. We welcome self-referrals, so no GP referral is required, and we offer prompt appointments given the time-sensitive nature of this scan.

Whether you’ve been advised by a GP to have this checked or you’re concerned about symptoms yourself, Sonoscan Healthcare is here to support you with a fast, clear result. Calf swelling is sometimes caused by a Baker’s cyst behind the knee — see our knee joint ultrasound scan — and we also offer an ankle & foot scan and a carotid Doppler scan.
